It is reported that Kawagoe Hikawa Shrine was built about 1,500 years ago.
Adored as the tutelary shrine for all of Kawagoe during the Edo Period. The shrine is also famous today for venerating a matchmaking deity.
Today's main shrine is sculpted in detail and is an important cultural property of the prefecture.
The gateway arch (torii) is the largest one made of wood in Japan.
